Internal transport barrier driven by redistribution of energetic ions

چکیده

Alfvén instabilities excited by energetic ions are used as a means to reduce the central magnetic shear in a tokamak via redistribution of energetic ions. When the central magnetic shear is low enough, ballooning modes become stable for any plasma pressure gradient and an internal transport barrier (ITB) with a steep pressure gradient can exist. This mechanism can sustain a steady-state ITB as demonstrated by experimental data from the DIII-D tokamak. It can also produce a shear in toroidal and poloidal plasma rotation. Possible application of this technique to use the energetic α particles for improvement of burning plasma performance is discussed. Oscillatory Zonal Flows Driven by Interaction between Energetic Ions and Fishbone-like Instability in CHS

Nonlinear evolution of magneto-hydro-dynamic (MHD) oscillatory phenomenon driven by the interaction with energetic particles has been studied in CHS using twin heavy ion beam probes. The measurements have provided the fine observation of internal structure of plasma quantities, such as electric field, density and magnetic field distortion during a cycle of the MHD phenomenon. The finding of a n...

Multi-scale Transport Simulation of Internal Transport Barrier Formation and Collapse

The mechanism of internal transport barrier (ITB) collapse in the reversed magnetic shear configuration is investigated using a global Ion Temperature Gradient driven drift wave (ITG) turbulence code. The heating source and the Toroidal Momentum Source (TMS) is introduced to follow the selfconsistent evolution of the ion temperature and flow profiles. The Toroidal Flow Shear (TFS) effect on the...

Impact of energetic-particle-driven geodesic acoustic modes on turbulence.

The impact on turbulent transport of geodesic acoustic modes excited by energetic particles is evidenced for the first time in flux-driven 5D gyrokinetic simulations using the Gysela code. Energetic geodesic acoustic modes (EGAMs) are excited in a regime with a transport barrier in the outer radial region. The interaction between EGAMs and turbulence is such that turbulent transport can be enha...

Microturbulence driven transport of energetic ions in the ITER steady-state scenario

Modelling of microturbulence-driven transport of energetic ions in an ITER steady-state scenario is presented. Results indicate that a significant fraction of the velocity space distribution of alpha particles and deuterium ions can be transported above neoclassical predictions. Turbulent magnetic fluctuations are found to significantly enhance the fast ion diffusivity. Overall, the conclusion ...
